Commemorating the End of Slavery and Honoring the Ongoing Journey Towards Equality

The Neill-Cochran House Museum invites you to celebrate Juneteenth at a place that brings Austin history to life. Join us for a day of celebration and reflection as we commemorate emancipation and the struggles and triumphs of those who fought for freedom and the ongoing journey towards equality.

The Celebration will include free barbecue, live music, tours, and activities. Guests can tour the house and grounds and see the Jack White Retrospective exhibition of African heritage inspired art on display in the NCHM Gallery. We will conclude the day with the dedication of the Toni Morrison Society Bench by the Road at the Neill-Cochran House Museum.

Free barbecue lunch, live music by the Jeremy George Quintet, lawn games, activities, and guided tours. See the Jack White Retrospective on display in the NCHM Gallery.

2:30pm
Words of welcome and gospel performance by Christopher D. Spivey & Co.

3:00pm
Toni Morrison Society ”Bench by the Road” dedication and unveiling

Enjoy live music and a free barbecue lunch from James Beard award nominated Damien Brockway (while it lasts). Join a guided tour of the NCHM Slave Quarters and grounds, as well as family- friendly craft activities and seek-and-finds, and see the Jack White Retrospective exhibition of African heritage inspired art on display in the NCHM Gallery. Then finish the day with a gospel performance by Christopher D. Spivey & Co. and the dedication and unveiling of the new Toni Morrison Society “Bench by the Road,” (only the 36th one worldwide) at the Neill-Cochran House Museum.

This event is free and open to the public, and includes lunch and refreshments.
