Dr. Francine Carraro and Lee Ann Whatley come together with dynamic backgrounds in the museum and gallery worlds to discuss the Art of Appraising Art with an informative, educational presentation for art collectors.
Together they will discuss what important details make up an appraisal report, the methodologies used to arrive at specific valuations and how and why appraisals are important. Whether you are considering evaluating your collection for Insurance purposes, Estate Planning purposes, or to potentially sell or donate your artwork, you will learn how a professional appraisal report can be an essential tool for the conscientious and discerning collector.
From start to finish you will know what to expect from the initial phone call to the ultimate product; a process that will address the problem to be solved and the expectations of the client, creating a scope of work and estimate for services, to the final understanding of what the final report and product will provide for you. You will know what to expect at an initial consultation and for the on-site inspection and data collection.
There will be ample time for questions and answers to demystify the appraisal process.

About the Speakers:
Francine Carraro is an independent fine art appraiser, art historian, and art consultant. Retired from the museum world, she now lives in Burnet, Texas. Her distinguished career included serving as museum director at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art, the Grace Museum, the Abbe Museum in Maine, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Wyoming. Before entering the museum field, she was a tenured professor of art history at Texas State University. She has a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, the recipient of the CASETA Distinguished Service Award, the author of Jerry Bywaters: A Life in Art (1994), and author of numerous articles and art exhibition catalogues.
Lee Ann Whatley, is an independent fine art appraiser and owns Appretiare LLC. She has been providing fine art appraisals since 2013 and has recently founded the Hill Country Appraiser’s Collective; grounded in Texas and working everywhere. Whatley is also an independent curator, art historian, art installation specialist, and performs art cleaning services and frame restorations. She has owned multiple art galleries and framing studios. Lee Ann lives and operates her appraisal and art services business in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Both speakers are members of the Hill Country Appraisers Collective (HCAC), but this presentation is not promotional.
