Sunday Funday: Pinch Pots

Sunday Funday
Pinch Pots

Family-Friendly Craft Activity at the Museum

sunday, october 12, 2025 | 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM CST

Pinch pots are a fundamental hand-building pottery technique where a ball of clay is pressed with a thumb and then pinched between the fingers and thumb to form a bowl or pot with uniform, even walls. This instinctive and ancient method is excellent for developing a feel for clay, allowing beginners to learn basic shaping and wall-forming techniques before moving on to more complex projects.

All supplies will be provided, as well as staff, to help with instructions. Reservations are not required. Participation in Sunday Funday is free for kids 12 and under with an adult’s Museum admission ($8 seniors / $10 general), and NCHM members are always free. Drop in anytime between 11:00AM and 2:00PM to enjoy the activity.

The Neill-Cochran House Museum is open for touring throughout the activity. After the activity, families can enjoy a scavenger hunt that leads you through the historic house and grounds to encourage exploration of the site.

NOTE: Daryl Howard will not be able to join Sunday Funday: All Ages Ink and Print. The activity will be led by her longtime printmaking assistants.
