Make take-home holiday ornaments at the Museum!
During times of economic hardship, such as the Great Depression, people often had to make their own decorations using whatever materials they had on hand to raise spirits. This included strings of popcorn and cranberries, paper chains, and various small crafts made from household items. The practice of using buttons emerged during this period as a clever, inexpensive way to create festive items from common sewing supplies.
The Neill-Cochran House Museum will provide all of the materials needed to make a take-home holiday ornament. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to lead the activity. Drop by any time 11:00AM - 2:00PM to participate.
The Neill-Cochran House Museum will be open for tours and kids can explore Austin history with one of our engaging seek-and-finds. Free parking is available behind the Museum.
