DIY History Exhibit
Have you ever wondered what it takes to create an exhibit? In this exercise, we invite you to become a curator for a day to produce your own exhibition! In the process, you will have a chance to share your own voice with your teacher/class, or your family, and even with us here at the Neill-Cochran House Museum!
So, what is a curator? The technical definition is that a curator is someone “who has the care and superintendence of something.” In other words, a curator takes care of objects. Sometimes, that is their only role – to ensure objects remain safe. However, most curators are also responsible for learning as much as they can about the objects in their care and for sharing that knowledge with the public through exhibits. If you are responsible for your own possessions (books, toys, clothing, pictures – anything, really), then you could call yourself a curator.
