Spring 2027

The Neill-Cochran House Museum (NCHM), is pleased to present our seventh annual juried exhibition, Hope for Spring: Texas Icons. Here at the NCHM, we know a bit about Texas icons - the Slave Quarters is the only intact slave dwelling left in Austin and one of very few in the entire state; the main house is one of the best examples of Greek Revival architecture in Texas; and we sit just a block away from the Fontaine Gold Dollar building, the workplace of another Texas icon, Jacob Fontaine.

What says Texas Icon to you? Is it Willie? Big Bend? A majestic Pecan tree? Tumbleweeds? We invite Central Texas artists to submit your take on the theme, in any medium you choose, to our annual juried show. The call for art will be posted in November 2026 and we will accept submissions beginning January 11, 2027.

GUIDELINES:

  • Artwork must address the annual theme: Texas Icons.

  • 2D work: minimum size is 4” x 4” maximum size 40” x 40”.

  • 3D work: must be free-standing within a radius of 3 feet (36 inches); if it requires a pedestal, the pedestal must be furnished by the artist.

  • Only original works, created by the artist/entrant, will be accepted.

  • Entrants must be at least 18 years old and based in Central Texas.

  • Artwork must be exhibited for the duration of the exhibition. Substitutions of artwork are not permitted.

  • Artwork must be family friendly and appropriate for public consumption.

This is a juried exhibition with cash prizes. Three winners and an Honorable Mention will be selected.

1st Place: $250, 2nd Place: $150; 3rd Place: $100.
