Paper Fan, c. 1780-1850

Ivory piqué blades with raised floral mo-tifs, originally gilded but gold has faded. Depicts the abduction of the beautiful, young Theophane by the sea god Neptune, who drives a chariot surrounded by his retinue of Nereids, or sea nymphs. Gilt shadowbox frame lined with olive velvet.
